According to Alan Campbell's book, Jane (now widowed) purchased Causeway Farm near Beaufort (near Ballarat in Victoria) after her arrival in Australia with her nine children (Hugh and Robert already in Australia, Ann stayed in Scotland, and Davida was dead). Here they grew crops and vegetables, and maintained a dairy herd. The children all attended school as well as helping their mother to work the farm (AJC p. 3).
Jane is buried at Wangaratta (AJC p. 4).
The Civil Registration of her daughter Isabella Milne Campbell in Scotland in 1855 says that Jane was born at New Prestwick in Monkton, and was aged 43 when Isabella was born. Scottish Parochial Registers have her entered as Jean Donnald, daughter of Robert Donnald and Ann McWatter, christened in Monkton on 8 July 1813.

Henry sold Causeway Farm, post hearing from a settled son Hugh in Australia. The family left Scotland on the "Prince Consort", a new sailing vessel. The vessel was disabled during a storm in the Bay of Biscay and was forced to put back to Plymouth for repairs. On second attempt, the vessel was again disabled in the Bay of Biscay at almost the same place. This time they had to be towed back to Liverpool by tug. On reaching Liverpool at night, they collided with another ship and this time the damage was so severe they had to transship to another vessel the "King of Algiers" and set sail for Victoria again. The third time they were disabled and had to return to Portsmouth. They persisted and arrived in Melbourne after 10 months on the water. One long standing story was they had been so long at sea that they had worn out (or outgrown) their shoes and the sailors made them canvas moccasins to protect their feet from melting tar on the ships decks in the tropics. Henry Campbell died at sea from bronchitis a fortnight before they arrived, having caught a chill which settled on his lungs. He was buried at sea and the rest of the family were met at Melbourne by Hugh who was now head of the family and took them by bullock cart to his new home in Stockyard Hill.
