Obituary - April 5, 1926 from the Seneca Tribune
Mrs. Janet Kelly, widow of the late John Kelly who had lived for the past thirty-six years at her late home near Turkey Creek, died Friday evening April 2nd at 7:45 after an illness of two months. Death was due to sarchoma (sarcoma- cancerous growth). She had lived to the age of seventy years, eight months and twenty-six days.
Janet Gregg was born on August 8, 1855 in the parish of Barr, Dalroch, Scotland. She emigrated to the United States on Jan. 18, 1875 in company with her aunt and namesake Janet Gregg, sister of Uncle Jimmie Gregg. On July 7, 1881 she was married in Seneca to John Kelly. To this union were born seven children, One, Mrs. A. C. Kriley, is deceased. Surviving are Andrew G. Kelly, Seneca; Mrs. W. J. Warren, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. J. W. Johnstone, Stockton, California; James G. Kelly, Pawnee City, Nebr.; Mrs. A. F. Edwards, Baileyville and William Kelly of the home. There are also eleven grandchildren. Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Congregational church. She was first of all, a faithful wife and mother and a neighbor, helpful in every time of need. She cared for her husband, the late John Kelly, through a lingering illness. Mr. Kelly passed away April 30, 1924, his funeral being the last conducted by the late Rev. A. B. Appleby.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Arthur W. Taylor, pastor of the Congregational church. The interment was made by the side of her husband in the city cemetery. The pallbearers were: Jay Graney, Fred Frehe, Henry Hartnan, Mike Rogers, Frank Hubka and J. T. Amos, all neighbors. The children were in attendance at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Warren of Kansas City who was unable to come because of the illness of her children. During the last week, Mrs. Kelly had the professional care of a beloved niece, Miss Marian Nowak, a nurse of Kansas City.
(An eighth child, Rosa May, was born 26 July 1898 and died four days later on 30 July, 1898. She was buried in Scotch Valley, Nemaha County and is not mentioned in the obituary
