Errected by William and George Gregg to the memory of their father James Greig died 22nd September 1819 age 47 years also Janet Greig their sister died 28th March 1823 aged 17. Also Sarah McMurray his wife died 26 October 1846 aged 73? years. Also James Gregg who died 22nd May 1852 aged 19 years. Janet McCargow wife of George Gregg died 30 September 1851. Also George Gregg died 8th April 1857 age 49 years. Their daughter Sarah Gregg died at Cawan 9th January 1862 aged 26 years.
William Gregg(brother to James Gregg) was married to Marion McMurray, was she sister to Sarah?
James was a shepherd working around the hillsides surrounding Barr Village. Sara his wife must have travelled with him as their Children are recorded in the Parish Records as being born in different areas.
James died at the age of 42 in Barr. Sarah lived for several more years and is shown on the 1841 Census with the family of her son William. She died at the age of 70 and is buried, alongside James, in the Church Yard of Barr. A Memorial stone was erected bt their Sons George and William.
